FAQ

Why Charleston?

For us as a family, it’s quite simple. God has called us. It’s a lot like that feeling you get when you “just know” you’re going to marry the person you’re going to marry. We’ll post the lengthy story of how it all came about sometime soon. But the nutshell version is that God has asked us to go, so we’re going.

For us as River Church, it is because the area of and surrounding Charleston, SC, is a city in need of restoration. It is rich in culture, history, and beauty. But relationally and spiritually there is a void of healthy, inspiring communities of Christ-followers. So we’re going with the intent to fill that void.

When will River Church begin meeting?

A core team has already begun meeting biweekly in Charleston. On the opposite weeks, we are already holding cookout gatherings that are open to the community. We will begin preview services early fall, and then launch fully on January 3, 2010.

Has River Church found a place to meet yet?

Not yet. The public schools do not begin negotiating outside party facility rentals until after the beginning of the school year, so it may be early fall before we have an accurate account of school availability. We will be talking to other facility owners in the coming weeks. Seeking out possible locations has been one of my first tasks now that I’m here in Charleston.

When are you moving?

We’ve moved! We are renting a house in West Ashley about 10 minutes from downtown. It’s a modest house with a lavish backyard. Fenced, shaded all day long (great for Charleston!), swingset, picnic table, hot tub, and even a little putting green! We really lucked out.

Are you going to try to sell your house in this market?!

In the 11th hour, just before moving day, God sent a family to rent our house in Georgia. And we can confidently say that it was no less than God’s perfect timing and God’s perfect choice. No question.
